From the 19th to 27th of August the city will get full of activities with oru emblematic beverage as protagonist.
LA SIDRA.- Everything is already set for one of the most cidery celebrations in Asturies. Xixón’s Cider Party will be held from tomorrow until the 27th of August and will have a wide range of activities starred by cider.
At Queen’s Gardens from 17:00 to 24:00 h we will be able to find the Apple and Cider Market where twenty craftsmen will display their works as well as gastronomic delicacies- Likewise, other points of the city such as Plaza’l Marqués, Plaza d’Italia, Paséu de Begoña and Campu Valdés will host cultural activites as “Street art”. Those are the folklore workshops by Asociación Azabache, Trebeyu, El Xolgoriu, Excélsior, Rial Grupu de Cultura Covadonga offering traditional dancing and classical music by Radio Kras Krasklásica.
There will also be a photo booth called “El puestín de la folixa” where people will be able to pruchase two commemorative glasses and will get a free picture. Besides there people can pay a visit to a cider mill managed by the CDROP Cider of Asturies on 24 and 25 from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00. As in previous years there will also be a masterclass of cider pouring on Tuesday 22nd in Campu Valdés at 8pm and a speech about the responsible consumption of cider by Xixón’s Youth Council on 23rd at 7. On Thursday at Main Square there will be the XXVI Official Cider Pourers Contest, at 5 pm and also an award to the “Nicest Cider Label” by Sidrastur collectors group.
On Friday 25th people will try to break the world record of cider pouring at Castrillón Beach. It will begina at 6pm and at 20:30 we all will pour a cider glass at the same time. The organizers will give away 8.565 cider bottles to break 2015’s record, since it was not possible last year. Join us, everybody! Besides there will be a bus to visit the cider mills of Castañón, Menéndez, Peñón and Trabanco.
On Saturday there will be the traditional “Cider bar songs” at Main Square at 21:00 with the performance of Torner Society along with the attending public. On Sunday at Main Square and Plaza’l Marqués there will be the Public Award and the Golden Praise for the cider presented to a contest. Also they will give the Golden Cask to Cesar Agüera Toyos from Sidre Cabueñes.
