Hereford Cider Museum

The museum is housed in a former cider making factory at Pomona Place, Hereford, England.

LA SIDRA.- Orchads are a way of life in Herefordshire, a treasured part of its landscape, and here is where you can find a whole world related to cider.

This was the birthplace of Bulmer’s Cider. Henry Percival Bulmer started making cider in 1887 and a year later purchased a plot of ground on the outskirts of Hereford to build a ‘shack’ to make and store cider. Extensive cellars were later excavated and the building was extended to incorporate both the factory and offices.

Hereford Cider Museum was founded in 1973 to preserve the history of cider making worlwide. Its extensive collection includes cider mills, presses, bottles, old photographs, watercolours, advertising memorabilia, artefacts associated with the history of cider making and a rare collection of English lead crystal cider flutes.

The Cider Museum aims to inspire and educate the public with regard to the past, present and future of the cider and perry industry by caring for and interpreting the material culture and heritage of the industry.

The Archive of Cider Pomology is sponsored by the National Association of Cider Makers and provides a central depositary for documents, books, images, maps and oral stories. It provides research facilities on subjects including orchading and cider an perry production.

The museum organises a programme of events throughout the year, including hands-on opportunities of apple pressing in the harvest season. Its shop sells an extensive range of ciders and related products as well as specialists books.
