The Asturies XXI Foundation has announced a new edition of the International “LA SIDRA” Photography Contest, a competition open to professional and amateur photographers who wish to capture the cider culture and its social, cultural and gastronomic dimensions.

LA SIDRA.- The contest, which is free to enter, focuses on cider, apples and everything related to cider culture, from traditional cider mills and the production process to cider consumption and everyday scenes connected with this tradition. Each participant may submit up to five photographs, taken with a camera or mobile phone and sent in digital format through the platform provided by the organizers.

The submission period will be open from April 1 to September 15, 2026, and the jury will select the winning image, two runners-up and a special mention, as well as a selection of finalist photographs that will be part of a public exhibition.

The first prize is €700 and a gold medal from the Spanish Confederation of Photography (CEF). Two runners-up prizes and the “Sidra JR” special mention will also be awarded.

Institutional support and collaboration from the cider sector

The contest is organized by the Asturies XXI Foundation with the collaboration of the Asemeyando Photographic Association, which provides technical support and helps manage the competition. The cider producer Sidra JR participates as the main sponsor, strengthening the link between the cider industry and cultural initiatives related to cider.

The contest also receives support from the Department of Culture, Language Policy and Sport of the Principality of Asturias, which backs initiatives aimed at promoting cultural heritage linked to cider.

The award ceremony and the opening of the exhibition of finalist photographs will take place at Sidrería La Galana in Gijón, a venue that has hosted the event for several years and has become a reference point for promoting cider culture and photography.

The twenty finalist photographs will form part of an exhibition that can be visited at the venue and will later travel to other cultural spaces, helping to promote cider culture through photography.

A well-established contest

This competition, unique in Spain for its theme and with an international vocation, was created to showcase cider culture through photography and has become, over the years, a reference for photographers interested in this cultural tradition.
