A 150-strong delegation will take part in the 55th Lorient Interceltic Festival, dedicated this year to Cornwall, from 31 July to 9 August.
This year, Asturias will celebrate four decades of institutional participation in the Lorient Interceltic Festival, one of the leading international gatherings of Celtic cultures. The Asturian delegation will present more than fifteen proposals covering music, dance, traditional singing, cinema and visual arts.
The delegation will include Banda de Gaites El Gumial, Grupu Etnográficu L’Oriente-Llacín, Rubén Alba, Llevólu’l Sumiciu, Herbamora, Ferla Megía, Entós and Rellume. La Tarabica, the pipe band of the Asturian Centre of Guadarrama, will also take part.
Iñaki Sánchez Santianes will perform as a soloist alongside composer Shaun Davey and the Interceltic Festival Orchestra. Asturian traditional singing will be represented by Alicia Villanueva Megido, Esteban Verdeja Martínez and Néstor Díaz González, winners of the second Obdulia Álvarez ‘La Busdonga’ National Asturian Singing Award.
Diego Lobo Tuñón, Pelayo Cordero, Pelayo Suárez and Nel Cortizo will compete in the MacCrimmon Trophy. Lobo will also give a masterclass, while Francisco López Delgado and Eduardo Llosa will serve on the jury.
The Asturian programme will be completed by a screening of Muyeres, directed by Marta Lallana, and the exhibition Notes from Brittany: Spanish Painters in the French Finistère, curated by Luis Feás.
The Great Parade of the Celtic Nations, the instrumental competitions and the evening performances will once again turn Lorient into a major international showcase for Celtic cultures.
