Toni Blanco and Bernabé Suardíaz completed the podium in an edition that brought together 35 cider batches, with eight qualifying for the final.

LA SIDRA.- Moisés Fernández Vega, from Fíos, won the 5th Parres Homemade Cider Competition and Tasting, held on Sunday 1 November 2026 in Les Arriondes. Organised by the Andecha Sidrera de Parres, the event formed part of the programme of the 35th Chestnut and Garden Produce Fair.

Victory was decided after a tie-break with Toni Blanco, from Cuadroveña, who finished second. Third place went to Bernabé Suardíaz, whose cider mill is in Gustarnales, in the parish of Cayarga. The winner has spent a lifetime pressing apples for cider, an experience that earned recognition this time in his own municipality’s competition.

The other finalists were Miguel Ángel Rosete, from Sinariega; Litri, from Les Arriondes; Leo Mires, from Sinariega; and Simón Carús and Guillermo Álvarez, both from Fíos. All 35 cider batches entered came from cider mills in Parres.

The jury, chaired by Maximino Villarrica, also had to break a tie between sixth and seventh place. Marcos Ramos was the official cider pourer, while Alberto Rodríguez, known as “El Folixeru”, presented the event.

The Andecha named César Suárez, manager of Tierra Astur, an honorary member. He was unable to attend to receive the honour. Piloña took part as the guest municipality. This relationship between neighbouring producers has a history: in 2023, Parres had been the guest municipality at the 7th Piloña Homemade Cider Competition. This exchange keeps the connection between the cider communities of both municipalities alive.

The history of the Parres tasting is recorded in the pages of LA SIDRA: the third edition, in 2024, announced the participation of 26 cider mills, while the 2025 event welcomed Ribeseya as the guest municipality. These earlier editions show how the event combines the judging of ciders with public participation.

The tasting shared the programme with a gathering of bagpipe bands, in a celebration bringing together cider, music and local produce. This social aspect is also present at other events covered by this magazine, such as the 2026 Folixa de Ribeseya and the 2025 Mundo Collada Awards cider tasting.

The Chestnut Fair will continue with its main events on 7 and 8 November. The 32nd Regional Cider Pouring Competition, which counts towards the Official Championship of Asturies, is scheduled for 5 p.m. on 8 November, alongside the popular amagüestu, a traditional communal chestnut roast.
