Endovélico, an International Benchmark of Cider Culture, Reopens in Porto

The legendary Celtic cider house Endovélico is reopening its doors in Porto, with the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Sidra de Asturias taking centre stage.

LA SIDRA.- The reopening of Endovélico marks the return of one of the most important international showcases for Asturian cider culture outside Asturias. Widely regarded as Portugal’s first specialised cider house, Endovélico has, since its inception, become a reference venue dedicated to cider, Celtic gastronomy and the promotion of Europe’s leading cider-producing cultures.

This new chapter will be officially launched on 13 June with an event featuring the PDO Sidra de Asturias, reinforcing the longstanding ties between the Asturian cider sector and an establishment that has played a key role in introducing Asturian ciders to Portuguese consumers over the years.

Endovélico’s new premises are located at Rua dos Mártires da Liberdade, 29, in the historic centre of Porto, a privileged location that will allow it to further expand its work promoting cider culture and high-quality ciders.

Founded by Maria José Valente and Jaime Filipe Barros, Endovélico was created with the aim of establishing a unique space in Porto devoted to Celtic traditions and cider culture. Over time, it became a meeting point for producers, enthusiasts and cultural promoters, hosting tastings, presentations and events linked to the international cider world.

Often described as a true “cider paradise”, Endovélico boasts one of the largest cider selections in Portugal and has played a fundamental role in popularising cider culture across the country. This trajectory has made it a benchmark not only in Portugal but also internationally, serving as a bridge between Europe’s main cider-producing regions and acting as an official ambassador for the Salón Internacional de les Sidres de Gala, held annually in Asturias on the last weekend of September.

The reopening further strengthens Endovélico’s strategic role in the international promotion of PDO Sidra de Asturias and once again positions Porto as one of the leading centres for the dissemination of Asturian cider culture beyond its borders.
