Sidra Cortina received the Premium award in a category with six Silver distinctions for ciders from Asturies, France, Bulgaria and Catalunya. The event’s catalogue also included Ice Cider by Annapolis and Hielo by Viuda de Angelón.
Ice cider had its own place at the 16th International Hall of Gala Ciders, held in Xixón from 24 to 27 September. The official SISGA honours list recognised seven products in this category, with a Premium award for Sidra Cortina and six Silver distinctions.
The recognition for Cortina’s Sidra de hielo was the leading Asturian result in this category of the SISGA 2026 Awards. Three other ciders from Asturies received Silver: Valverán «20 manzanas», by Valverán; Guzmán Riestra, by Riestra; and La Bonagua, by Llagar Castañón.
The remaining three Silver awards went to producers from France, Bulgaria and Catalunya. Cidre de Glace La Galotiere, by Domaine de la Galotiere, was the French recipient; Iduun, by Domaine Saint-Georges, the Bulgarian one; and Sidra de Gel, by Mooma, the Catalan one. Asturies therefore accounted for four of the seven ice cider distinctions, sharing the category with other producing territories.
The range of ciders presented extended beyond the award winners. The official catalogue included Ice Cider among the products entered by Canadian producer Annapolis and Hielo among those from Viuda de Angelón, in Asturies. Their presence broadens the picture of this speciality to include entries that do not appear in the category’s honours list.
The jury for the 16th SISGA comprised one representative from each participating cider producer. This brought the different tastes and perspectives of the cider territories represented at the event into the judging process.
The ice cider results illustrate one aspect of this edition’s diversity: a category with a strong Asturian showing and an international presence. The most awarded producers and Madeira’s participation provide two further perspectives on the cider gathering in Xixón.
