Cortina’s Gran Amagüestu brings cider and chestnuts to Amandi

The event on 24 October starts at 18:30 with a cider mill tour, followed by roasted chestnuts, sweet cider, music by Les Pandereteres de la Providencia, traditional corn husking and family games.

Llagar de la Ferrería in Amandi, Villaviciosa, will host Sidra Cortina’s Gran Amagüestu this Saturday, 24 October. The event brings together the Asturian amagüestu tradition of chestnuts and sweet cider, a visit to a working cider mill during the apple-pressing season, and activities for families.

The programme begins at 18:30 with a guided tour explaining how cider is made. This introduction to the work of Asturian cider mills includes a small serving of natural cider drawn directly from the barrel for adult visitors.

From 19:30, the chestnut-wood barrel cellar will host the second part of the gathering. Roasted chestnuts will be served with sweet cider, or fresh apple juice, and a selection of Asturian foods. Natural cider drawn from the barrel will also be available. The amagüestu is scheduled to continue until 22:00.

Traditional music by Les Pandereteres de la Providencia will accompany a programme that also includes an esfoyaza, a communal corn-husking tradition, and traditional games. The gathering aims to introduce younger generations to these customs and share Asturian cider culture in the place where cider is produced.

The event follows recognition for Cortina’s ice cider, which received a Premium award at the 16th SISGA. The Amandi producer combines cider making with activities that introduce visitors to the drink and the traditions surrounding it.

Advertised prices are €24 for adults and €12 for minors. Further information and Gran Amagüestu bookings are available through the Sidraturismo Asturias activity page.
