Sidrería La Galana will host this Friday the awards ceremony of the 17th LA SIDRA International Photography Contest and the opening of the exhibition featuring the 20 finalist photographs of this seventeenth edition of the competition
LA SIDRA.– Sidrería La Galana, located in Gijón’s Plaza Mayor, will be the venue this Friday, November 14th, at 8:00 p.m., for the awards ceremony and the opening of the exhibition of the 17th LA SIDRA International Photography Contest, a competition that reaffirms itself as an international reference in photography dedicated to the cider world.
Organized by Fundación Asturies XXI, with the sponsorship of Sidra JR cider mill and the artistic and technical collaboration of the Asemeyando Association, the contest continues to strengthen its position as an artistic showcase of cider culture and Asturian intangible cultural heritage.
Eduardo San Vicente, winner of the edition
The First Prize, endowed with €700 and the Gold Medal of the Spanish Confederation of Photography (CEF), was awarded to the Riojan photographer Eduardo San Vicente for the work “Drops that Tell Stories: Pouring Tradition”, a highly symbolic image capturing the moment of cider-pouring as a universal emblem of Asturian cider.
The Second Prize, with €200 and the CEF Silver Medal, went to Juan Carlos Hernández Fernández for “Always With Us”; the Third Prize, with €100 and the CEF Bronze Medal, was awarded to Francisco J. Domínguez García for “Heart-Healthy Cider”.
The Sidra JR Special Mention, endowed with €100 and two cases of Sidra JR, went to Óscar Chamorro Flórez for the work “Bottle Washing Station”, a visual homage to traditional craftsmanship in Asturian cider mills.
A prestigious jury of great artistic level
The jury was chaired by Asturian photographer Luis José Vigil-Escalera, known as Lujó Semeyes, Master of the CEF and FIAP Excellence. The high artistic level of the submitted photographs and the narrative quality of the compositions were emphasized, reflecting the vitality of cider culture.
Institutional presence at the ceremony
The ceremony is expected to feature Esther Freire, member of the Asturian Parliament, as well as councillors of Gijón City Council, with the expected presence of Guzmán Pendás, who already took part in last year’s awards event.
The institutional presence highlights the growing prestige of this cultural event, which brings together art, tradition, and commitment to the territory.
An exhibition with an international vocation
The exhibitions of the finalist photographs begin this November at La Galana and will soon continue at the Asturias Cider Museum (Nava). Throughout 2026, the travelling exhibition “LA SIDRA Photographs” will visit various European cities integrated into the Cider Cities network, strengthening cultural ties between Europe’s cider-producing territories.
This international tour aims to present cider as a symbol of identity and a shared cultural product, contributing to the promotion of Asturias as a European benchmark in the cider world.
Institutional and cultural support
The contest and its exhibitions take place thanks to the sponsorship of the Sidra JR cider mill and the grant from the Ministry of Culture, Linguistic Policy and Sports of the Principality of Asturias, which support the promotion of cider heritage as a living and universal expression of Asturian culture.
