It will take place today, Tuesday, 23 December, at 1:30 p.m., in the Plenary Hall of the Villaviciosa Town Council.
LA SIDRA.- Alejandro Vega Riego, Mayor of Villaviciosa, will present to the media the agreement by which the municipality of Villaviciosa joins the European Network of Cider Cities (RECS – Cider Cities).. The event will also include the participation of Álvaro Alonso and Marcos Abel Fernández, founding members of Cider Cities and members of its current governing board, representing the Chamber of Commerce of Gijón and the Asturies XXI Foundation, respectively.
The European Network of Cider Cities is an international cooperation initiative that brings together municipalities from different European Union countries historically, culturally and economically linked to cider and apples. The network is framed within the European project CIDEREU (Cider Cities), promoted with the aim of strengthening collaboration between local governments, cultural organisations and economic stakeholders in the cider sector.
Cider Cities operates as a strategic tool to facilitate the international positioning of local governments, promoting decentralised cooperation, the exchange of knowledge, good practices and experiences in areas such as cider culture, intangible heritage, rural development, sustainable tourism, local economy and innovation linked to apples and cider.
Villaviciosa’s incorporation into this European network represents recognition of its historical role as a reference cider-producing territory and opens up new opportunities for collaboration with other European cities, fostering the municipality’s international projection and access to shared projects, European programmes and stable working networks.
During the press briefing, the objectives of the agreement, the scope of Villaviciosa’s participation in the network and future lines of work within the framework of Cider Cities / CIDEREU will be detailed.
