The 12th Charity Espicha raises €3,000 and honours Javier Gutiérrez

The 12th Charity Espicha Against Cancer raised €3,000 to support the Sandra Ibarra Foundation and its Escuela de Vida programme. Held on Saturday 7 November at Llagar Cortina in Villaviciosa, the gathering also honoured actor Javier Gutiérrez as the 2026 Asturian Charity Cider Ambassador.

LA SIDRA.— The charity gathering announced for Saturday brought the cider sector together around a shared cause. Organised by the Sidra de Asturies PDO Regulatory Council and the Sandra Ibarra Foundation, the espicha welcomed institutional representatives, cider professionals, collaborators and members of the public wishing to support people living with cancer.

The €3,000 raised will contribute to the work of the foundation and its Escuela de Vida, or School of Life, which focuses on support, care and quality of life for people with cancer and cancer survivors. The organisers placed the event within their wider commitment to research, awareness and support for those affected by the disease.

A central moment was the recognition of Javier Gutiérrez as the 2026 charity ambassador. The actor unveiled a commemorative plaque on one of the cider mill’s casks, marking his association with the initiative.

In his speech, Gutiérrez thanked the organisers for the honour and stressed the importance of raising awareness of the Sandra Ibarra Foundation’s work. He highlighted the need for empathy in a polarised society and expressed his support for the foundation’s daily activities.

His appointment adds another name to the public figures who have supported the initiative over successive editions. The organisers recalled previous ambassadors including Víctor Manuel, Arturo Fernández, Carlos Franganillo and Padre Ángel.

The Regulatory Council thanked the Sandra Ibarra Foundation for its collaboration, Llagar Cortina for hosting the event, and the supporting organisations and attendees for their involvement. Once again, a gathering centred on cider provided a practical contribution to care and support for people affected by cancer.
