The Casa de Cultura in Santuyano will host the presentation of this exhibition on cider culture among emigrant communities on 30 October 2026 at 7 pm.
Organised by Fundación Asturies XXI and curated by Llucía Fernández Marqués, the exhibition brings together photographs, posters and labels documenting cider’s place in celebrations, family gatherings and the commercial life of Asturian emigrants.
The twenty large-format panels include images such as a portrait of two emigrants in Cuba in 1885 and El Gaitero cider being loaded for shipment in the Villaviciosa estuary around 1920. They trace the journeys of both the bottles and the people who carried their traditions across the Atlantic.
The exhibition also explores how demand from emigrant communities helped expand sparkling cider exports and modernise cider mills. Trade and advertising help explain how cider found its way into cafés, hotels and other establishments in the Americas.
The project also includes a 48-page book and an online exhibition, available on the Fundación Asturies XXI website. Supported by the Asturian Government’s Presidency Department, the initiative remains open to contributions from family, business and community archives.
Friday’s presentation in Santuyano will offer visitors in Bimenes a chance to explore the cider heritage of Asturian emigration.
