The international literary contest organised by Fundación Automáticos Tineo has announced nine award recipients following the jury meeting in Villaviciosa. The ceremony will take place on 21 November.
The first “Sidra de Autor” International Short Story Competition, organised by Fundación Automáticos Tineo para el Fomento de la Cultura, announced the jury’s decision following its meeting on 13 October at Casa de los Hevia in Villaviciosa. Its inaugural edition attracted 520 stories from 23 countries and 47 Spanish provinces.
The competition was created to promote Asturian cider culture through literature. The number and quality of submissions led the jury and the foundation’s board to increase the number of honourable mentions from three to six, bringing the total number of recognised stories to nine.

A jury bridging literature and cider culture
The jury, chaired by Ramón Álvarez, brought together established literary figures and representatives of the Asturian cider world. According to the organisers, this combination allowed the stories to be judged both for literary merit and for their sensitivity to cider culture.
Carlos Juan González López, president of the foundation’s board, highlighted the international reach of the inaugural competition and the appeal of Asturian cider culture as a source of literary inspiration.
The foundation plans to publish a collection featuring all award-winning stories, along with further submissions selected by the jury for their particular interest or quality.
