LA SIDRA.- Issue 270 of LA SIDRA features the SISGA Awards group photograph on its cover, taken by Llucía Fernández. The new edition combines extensive coverage of the international gathering in Xixón with features, opinion, photography and food. It explores cider today and the people who keep its culture alive.
SISGA 2026 at the heart of the issue
The main feature looks back at the 16th International Hall of Gala Ciders, held from 24 to 27 September, with 346 products from 124 cider producers in 35 countries. It follows the delegations from the opening and activities at the Cider Museum in Nava to visits to El Gaitero and Sidra Cortina.
The Open Tasting, the Cider Cities assembly, the gathering at Piñera for a traditional espicha and the Gala Brunch complete coverage that also includes the SISGA 2026 Awards and profiles of several participating producers and products. Madeira and A Estrada joining Cider Cities reflects the ongoing cooperation between cider regions.
A future for cider houses and the culture they share
The editorial, whose title translates as “Building a future on cider’s strength”, argues for international visibility and cultural recognition to become lasting opportunities for the sector. A feature on a proposed tax framework to protect Asturian cider houses opens a related debate about the support needed by the businesses that keep cider service and its traditions alive.
Training and the next generation also receive attention, through the Tierra Astur cider-pouring school and the return of Sidrocoles to the classroom. This educational programme from Fundación Asturies XXI introduces pupils to apples, apple crushing, orchards and the vocabulary of cider-making through practical participation and family memories.
Photography, emigration and local cider life
“La sidre que cruzó l’Atlánticu” — cider that crossed the Atlantic — explores emigration and identity through the Asturian emigration and cider project, comprising a book, a virtual exhibition and a travelling display. Its photographs and documents show how cider accompanied Asturian communities in the Americas.
The magazine also presents the results of the 18th LA SIDRA International Photography Competition, which awarded first prize to Josemi Díez for “Nicolás”. The jury assessed 120 photographs by 37 photographers. Reports from Morea, the Folixa la Sidre and the homemade cider competitions in Gozón and the Nalón valley complete this picture of community participation.
Discovering cider through food
The October issue features “12 meses, 12 sabores” — “12 months, 12 flavours” — the gastronomic initiative from Grupo Codilex and LA SIDRA, alongside food from local cider houses and other establishments. It also includes Manuel G. Busto’s article asking why cider should taste of apples, and coverage of ice cider’s inclusion in the Sidra de Asturias Protected Designation of Origin.
News, culture, food and debate share the 98 pages of an issue that looks out to the wider world from Asturies’ cider mills, cider houses and everyday life.
